Getting Started
How to download, install and activate a product you bought, from checkout to a running EA.
This guide takes you from checkout to an EA trading on your chart. It takes about five minutes.
Before you start
- MetaTrader 4 or MetaTrader 5 installed, matching the product you bought. An MT4 product does not run in MT5, and the reverse.
- You are logged in to the trading account the licence is for.
- Your licence key. It looks like
FXN-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX.
From purchase to a running EA
- Find your licence key. It is on the order confirmation page, in the licence email, and in My Account > My Licences.
- Download the file. Go to My Account > Downloads and click Download. Unzip the file. It contains the EA and a README.
- Copy the EA into MetaTrader. In MetaTrader choose File > Open Data Folder, open
MQL4/Experts(MT4) orMQL5/Experts(MT5), and copy the.ex4or.ex5file there. - Restart MetaTrader, or right-click Expert Advisors in the Navigator and choose Refresh.
- Allow FXNook. Go to Tools > Options > Expert Advisors, tick Allow WebRequest for listed URL, double-click the empty line, type
https://fxnook.comand press Enter. Click OK. - Attach the EA. Drag it from the Navigator onto a chart.
- Enter your key. In the EA’s Inputs tab, paste your key into FXNook_LicenseKey and click OK.
- Switch on automated trading. Make sure AutoTrading (MT4) or Algo Trading (MT5) in the toolbar is on.
Step 5 is the one most people miss
Without it, MetaTrader blocks the licence check and the EA will not trade. Type the address rather than pasting it, and include https://. See Allowing FXNook in MetaTrader.
How to tell it is working
Look at the top-left corner of the chart. A small FXNook Verified panel shows the licence state:
- Licence active – everything is fine and the EA trades normally.
- LICENCE CHECK FAILED – NOT TRADING with a reason underneath – the EA is waiting. The reason tells you what to fix. Once fixed, it starts again by itself within about a minute.
See The FXNook badge on your chart for every state.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to allow DLL imports?
Not for FXNook licensing. Only tick “Allow DLL imports” if the seller of that EA says their EA itself needs it.
Can I test it in the Strategy Tester first?
Yes. The licence check is skipped in the Strategy Tester, so you can backtest without a key.
I bought it but there is no key yet.
The key is issued as soon as the payment is confirmed. Some payment methods take a few minutes. If it has not appeared after an hour, contact support with your order number.
